I owe a huge debt of gratitude to a number of amazing people who have supported me over the years while RA Therapy & Training has become established. During this time my interests and passions have developed, (some may say ‘run away with me’) and I hope my experience and training can now be harnessed to provide a truly outstanding level of care to my clients, whether they have two or four legs!
Recently a number of my clients and students have asked me how or why I have chosen to combine my skills as I have so I thought perhaps it was a good first topic for my new blog – ‘RA Therapy & Training, Insights of an Anatomy Geek’
Back in the day a keen interest in equestrian sport originally led me to train as a riding instructor, however once qualified as a BHS Intermediate Instructor (now known as a BHS Stage 4 Senior Coach) I allowed my fascination for biomechanics, injury and rehabilitation to grow and trained in both Human and Equine Bowen Therapy finally leaving my position as a Senior Instructor at Wellington Riding to begin RA Therapy & Training in September 2008.
Over the years my passion for working with both horse and rider to minimise injury and maximise performance has developed and I have continued to add to my portfolio of techniques.
I currently work with a combination of techniques, which may be easiest to list when split into those provided for humans and animals:
Human:
- The Bowen Technique (European College of Bowen Studies, 2008)
- Sports & Remedial Massage (ITEC L3 Diploma, 2011)
- Kinesiology Taping (Various CPD Courses)
- Equestrian Coaching (BHS Senior Coach, 2008)
Animal/Equine:
- Veterinary Physiotherapy (Harper Adams University, Post Graduate Diploma, 2020)
- Equine Bowen Therapy (European School of Equine Bowen Therapy, 2008)
Having previously always worked as a mobile therapist, in 2017 the addition of a permanent treatment room for humans in Shipston-on-Stour allowed my practice to grow considerably and I am thrilled to now regularly work with clients from all walks of life, although when I am on the road I do most often treat horses and their riders!
The most recent and most exciting developments for RA Therapy & Training are the launch of ‘Birdie’ The Treatment Truck, and a growing collaboration with Deneside Equine Rehabilitation. These exciting developments allow human clients to be treated in comfort and privacy at any location along with the potential for a huge range of clinics and add the opportunity for residential equine rehabilitation cases and an excellent central base for my Symmetry Service (See my next blog for more information!)
In this space, along with occasional updates about RA Therapy & Training, I aim to share insights, observations and other items of interest which may help maximise equestrian performance.
